Should LeBron start an OnlyFans?

And why now might be the right time.

I know I dropped a newsletter yesterday, but I still wanted to share another article I’d been working on.

And what better way to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the US, than by discussing one of the greatest American-born athletes of all time.

As the title of this email suggests, I’m starting to wonder if LeBron should start up his own OF account.

Why, you may ask?

Before we get into my rationale, let’s get you up to date.

If you don’t know, LeBron has informed the Lakers that he will not be returning next season, ending his 8-year tenure with the team.

LeBron has won a title in LA, broken the NBA scoring record in LA, and even broken the record for most minutes played. He’s had so many achievements in the purple and gold.

But now, going into his 24th year in the league, he will be taking his talents elsewhere.

And that part, the elsewhere part, is the area I want to primarily focus on.

“Where Else, LeBron?!”

Look, I’ve been following LeBron’s journey in the league since he was drafted back in 2003. I sat and watched him dominate in Cleveland as a young star.

Then I watched the controversial “Decision interview” he held to announce his departure to Miami. I watched him battle for 4 years on the Heat before dashing back to Cleveland, complete with burned jerseys.

I was mesmerized as he came back from 3-1 to defeat the Warriors. Then just as quickly, I watched him pack up his bags and fly to Southern California…all the while thinking…

If I’m a LeBron fan, all this movement is a lot. Especially on my jersey budget.

I’m kidding, but only kinda.

In an era when the NBA games are segmented across 5 different platforms, players stay with teams for 3-4 years…LeBron hopping around the league is taxing (no pun intended).

The funniest thing I saw was a fan letter breaking up with the Lakers in response to LeBron’s announcement.

It really does appear that when LeBron leaves, chunks of their fanbase do too.

I’ve always known that fans follow stars in this league. So this comes as no surprise.

But with LeBron’s future in flux, with teams like the Warriors, Miami, and Philly all floating out there, I think it’s time for LeBron to create his own place for fans to come together and connect with him…

…or maybe an Only Fans island?

The premise of OnlyFans is to create a centralized place where users can view content from their creators…(Oh, and I’m fully aware this is a hyper-sanitized, baby oil-free definition, but the point still stands.)

I know the title was a click-baity, but honestly LeBron loyalists are there for him and not the teams.

Bron fans watch teams for Bron. They root for the team he’s on. Jerseys are rented. Team loyalty is leased.

LeBron has long reached a superstar status where he is bigger than a team. LeBron’s brand rivals the Lakers, and we are about to watch the significance of this as he joins his 5th team ever in his long, decorated career.

It’s time the King created a place for his fans to go to talk about all things LeBron.

Have you watched the clips of the 2016 Cavs reunion vacation?

This summer, Bron and the Cleveland Cavaliers crew that defeated the Warriors in 2016 reunited in Europe for a little vacation.

It was a true boys’ trip, complete with golf, wine, and comedy. And the camera helped capture it all.

Across social, clips continued to drop, and they were hilarious.

Kevin Love, Richard Jefferson, JR Smith, and more were all just having a blast. Dancing, clowning around. We got to see a lens into their lives that we usually don’t.

This is the type of content people have longed to see.

And this is where my idea came from…

It would be awesome if, as the King heads into the twilight of his career, he gave his fans a special place for them to connect with him. The real him.

IG doesn’t do it justice. YouTube doesn’t do it justice.

Controversial as it might be, Jaylen Brown’s Twitch stream has been a great way to get those unfiltered thoughts & moments.

After his recent trade, Jaylen came on Twitch and spoke with the fan base (both Celtics and Philly) to address the news. Almost 30,000 people tuned in. He called new teammates VJ Edgecombe and Tyrese Maxey live on stream.

Could you imagine if Bron had something like this?

I’m sure fans would love it, and I think they are owed something different.

We’ve heard rumors the LeBron has already been filming for an eventual documentary, but fans could use something now…

Maybe something less polished. Less PR forward. More authentic.

Now I’m not actually recommending Bron start an OnlyFans account. That would be ridiculous. But there is a real appetite among LeBron fans for more content. And this next team move will surely stir up more hunger for it.

I mean, Bron fans have some real NBA mileage on them. Supporting him across the nation, from the East to the West coast, and buying jersey after jersey.

I mean, will he go to Miami, the Warriors, Cleveland, Philly, or some mystery team?! Who knows?

So my message to the team that’s lucky to get LeBron this offseason is this:

Just remember…

Bron will be bringing his talents, his leadership, his crown, and his powder…and oh yeah, a caravan of Fans…

And when he leaves or retires, don’t be mistaken, they were never your fans.

They were LeBron “Only” fans.
